20th European Conference on Information Systems, 2012

ECIS is considered the premier information systems event in the European region and provides a platform for panel discussions and the presentation of peer-reviewed academic research. All submissions are double-blind reviewed and recent acceptance rates have been roughly 30% range. The electronic version of the conference proceedings (1993-2008-excluding 1995 and 1998) and full citations (1993-2008) are available publicly.

The first ECIS conference took place in 1993 in Henley-on-Thames, United Kingdom. This year, the 20th European Conference on Information Systems will be celebrated at ESADE in Barcelona Spain. We look forward to a celebration of 20 years of outstanding IS scholarship in Barcelona on June 10-13, 2012.

The conference will be preceded by the Doctoral Consortium, planned to be held from Friday to Sunday. Sunday evening will mark the official start with the Welcome Reception that will be held on Sunday Evening. About Barcelona

ECIS 2012 will be held in Barcelona, which is located in a privileged position on the northeastern coast of the Iberian peninsula and the shores of the Mediterranean. It is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population. It is also the capital of Catalonia, 1 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up Spain.

There are two official languages spoken in Barcelona: Catalan, generally spoken in all of Catalonia, and Castillian Spanish. The city of Barcelona has a population of 1.510.000, but this number spirals to more than 4.000.000 if the outlying areas are also included.

The capital of Catalonia is unequivocally a Mediterranean city, not only because of its geographic location but also and above all because of its history, tradition and cultural influences. The documented history of the city dates back to the founding of a Roman colony on its soil in the second century B.C. Modern Barcelona experienced spectacular growth and economic revival at the onset of industrialization during the second half of the 19th century. The 1888 World's Fair became a symbol of the capacity for hard work and the international outlook projected by the city. Culture and the arts flourished in Barcelona and in all of Catalonia; the splendor achieved by Catalonian modernism is one of the most patent displays.

Weather There are basically four seasons in Barcelona: autumn, cool, perfect spring, and really hot. We predict the weather for ECIS 2012 will be “quite hot”! We recommend attendees bring a light jacket and pants as nights can become cool! Check this website for live weather forecasts: meteo.cat
Planning your visit We have provided several websites below to help ECIS 2012 attendees conduct their own research on Barcelona and its surroundings areas. Each site will contain pictures, ideas, links, and resources that will help you plan your visit. The City of Barcelona, Barcelona Convention Bureau, Barcelona Tourism, Catalonia Tourism and guided visits.

About ESADE

ESADE is an international academic institution with over fifty years of history. ESADE's key mission is to train individuals to become highly-competent professionals fully aware of their social responsibility. ESADE's academic activity takes place on its Barcelona, Madrid and Buenos Aires campuses. The three main areas it focuses on are education, research and social dialogue. ESADE's 40,000 alumni work in over one hundred countries, holding top-level posts in companies, public administration and the non-profit sector.

ESADE belongs to Ramon Llull University (URL) a private University constituted in 1991 by the Government of Catalonia. ESADE's global prestige stems from its quality education, its international focus and its holistic approach towards professional and personal skills development. ESADE is one of the few institutions with “triple crown” accreditation; that is AACSB, EQUIS, and ABS.

Every year ESADE invests more and more into research, one of its main pillars of excellence. In the simplest terms, a strong research focus ensures that ESADE faculty actively participate in the dialogues, debates and scientific advances that define the boundaries of knowledge in our respective fields. This is important for several reasons: First, research ensures that our professors are world-class educators who inspire students with the latest and best thinking in their disciplines. Second, research guarantees that the numerous public, private and non-profit organisations that interact with ESADE engage in informed and relevant dialogues. Finally, research sustains ESADE's mission to play a significant role in society; to actively promote and contribute to the most challenging social and scientific debates underway.

ESADE strives to be an epicenter of academic and social debate. Approximately 20,000 people attend the 270-plus events organised each year. The 20th European Conference on Information Systems is one of these excellent events. We are excited to welcome you at ESADE in June 2012, and look forward to an outstanding conference
